I’m not usually a big city person, so I wasn’t sure what to expect from Paris.

But after spending a full day here, it ended up being one of the most enjoyable parts of our trip. The mix of walkable streets, views, and slower moments made it feel much more relaxed than I expected.

If you only have one day in Paris and want to see the highlights without feeling overwhelmed, this itinerary focuses on a scenic, simple route with a few budget-friendly tips along the way.

Trip at a Glance
  • Time: 1 full day
  • Best for: first-time visitors, scenic travelers
  • Style: walkable + simple
  • Budget: low- moderate
Morning: Slow Start + Walk Through the City

We started our day in the late morning on the outskirts of Paris after a long night of travel. Getting enough rest made a big difference since we knew we’d be walking most of the day.

One of the best parts of Paris is simply walking through the streets, so we built our entire day around that instead of trying to rush between stops.

Late Morning: Cafe Stop + Eiffel Tower Walk

We decided to get breakfast at Café de Flore, so we began our walk from our Airbnb just south of the Panthéon. The café was beautiful and the food was a great start to the day. From there, we made our way toward the Eiffel Tower. Along the walk, we stopped often for coffee, photos, and just to take in the architecture. Almost every street felt worth slowing down for.

We arrived at the Eiffel Tower just before larger crowds started to form, which made the experience much more enjoyable. Since we visited right after the Olympics, the rings were still on the tower, which made it feel even more unique.

Afternoon: Bridges, Side Streets, and Exploring

After the Eiffel Tower, we crossed the river to visit the Pont de Bir-Hakeim bridge (where Inception was filmed). This area felt much quieter compared to the main tourist spots.

One of the best decisions we made was stepping off the main paths and exploring side streets. That’s where we found some of the most peaceful moments—quiet roads, incredible architecture, and small local markets.

As we made our way back toward our Airbnb, we stopped at a few monuments but didn’t try to see everything. Focusing on enjoying the experience instead of checking off a list made the day feel much more relaxed

Evening: Rest + Eiffel Tower at Night

We took a short break at our Airbnb in the afternoon, which helped us reset before heading back out for the evening.

After dinner, we took a taxi closer to the Eiffel Tower and found a spot near Place du Trocadéro to sit and watch it light up. This ended up being one of the highlights of the entire day.

After spending some time there, we grabbed gelato on the way home and called it a night. It was one of my highest step-count days, but completely worth it.

Budget Tips for Paris:
  • Walk as much as possible instead of relying on transportation
  • Don’t overpack your itinerary—this saves both time and money
  • Grab simple meals or café food instead of full sit-down restaurants every time
  • Stay in a walkable area to avoid extra travel costs
Where to Stay:

We stayed just south of the Panthéon, which ended up being a great location for walking.

When booking through Airbnb, I recommend looking for:

  • central, walkable neighborhoods
  • access to cafés and main sights
  • a quiet area just outside the busiest zones
Final Thoughts

Even as someone who doesn’t usually love big cities, Paris felt different in the best way.

With a simple plan and a focus on walking and views, one day felt like enough to experience what makes the city special—without feeling overwhelmed.

I would absolutely go back.
